We are very proud of Joe [Class 10] who took part in his first swimming gala. Joe swims for Sunderland Swimming club and trains 4 times a week; he even gets up at 5.00am every Saturday morning! At the gala Joe swam in 4 races: a medley, 100m, 50m front crawl and 200m freestyle. Joe did exceptionally well and won three medals.
Well done Joe!
Every year we use our sports funding to purchase a great range of games and equipment to keep our children active during lunchtime. The equipment is managed by our Year 5 'Sports Leaders', who are trained to organise active play during lunchtime. This also means that children always have someone to play with and lots of fun things to do. We have plenty of open space to help the children to keep fit and healthy. For children who prefer a more gentle lunchtime, we have a 'quiet' area where less active games are allowed.
Our Physical Activity ethos
At Rickleton Primary School, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.
Our dedication last academic year to the improvement of Physical Activity for all our pupils and the delivery of high-quality PE sessions and after-school activities was rewarded with the accreditation of GOLD Standard in the Sainbury’s School Games (4th year running) and GOLD Standard for the City of Sunderland Active Charter Award (2nd year running). We intend to work to again achieve these standards and extend our provision.
Our School Sport Lead is Mr Woodhead.
