Welcome to Year 6's website page!
Welcome to Year 6's website page. Here, you will be able to find out what we are learning as well as see regular updates of us engaging in and enjoying our work. This half term our learning will be centred around Africa. This will involve learning lots about the culture: through listening and responding to traditional music; exploring artworks by prolific artists; creating performances and learning about the lives of inspirational people such as: Nelson Mandela. Some of this exciting learning will also be linked to our end of year performance of: The Lion King!
Our class novel this half term is Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom by Chris Van Wyk & Nelson Mandela. In addition to this, we will continue to read a range of fiction texts including extracts from Shakespeare ( beginning with The Tempest).
In science, we will move on to investigating light; considering how it appears to move in straight lines and learning how shadows are created. Throughout this learning, we will continue to build on our investigative skills by exploring valid questions and presenting findings. Within geography this term, we will also be learning a range of field work skills as well as exploring land use patterns and change over time.
In PSHE, we will complete our learning about positive body image, particularly focusing on social media before moving on to thinking about our successful transition to secondary school. There are also many other fantastic learning opportunities and visits planned throughout the term.
PE for Year 6 will be on a Tuesday so please ensure that a suitable PE kit is in school at the start of each week. Homework is also issued on a Friday and should be returned by the following Tuesday; we offer a homework club on a Monday lunchtime to support children with this.
