Year 6

Pupils in Year 6 worked together to write a report about the impact of the lack of sleep within Year 6. They interviewed varying people to gain a better understanding a lack of sleep can have on their learning.

Our Learning

We went on a portal hunt around school as part of our new literacy topic where we will be learning about portal stories. Each portal took us to an exciting setting filled with rich vocabulary.

As part of our Amazon topic, we worked in teams to answer the question: how have humans changed the face of the planet?

Teams looked at: The Cayman Islands, Washington and The Amazon.

We can't wait for the Skype call to a year 6 class in the Cayman to ask some questions about things we discovered during this project. Great team work year 6!

Our new topic is learning how to be effective report writers and we are looking forward to writing some wonderful recounts for a newspaper. We watched a shocking clip from Planet Earth 2 as a jaguar mauled a caiman! It has been a great hook into a newspaper topic.

We met insects, animals and reptiles from the rainforest today. It was amazing to see the rainforest in our classroom and we can't wait to apply our knowledge in a final piece of information writing.

We enjoyed debating deforestation and generated reasons for and against. We will use these to write a discussion text around this pressing issue. #savetherainforest

Pupils in Year 6  have been exploring the place value within decimals up to 3 decimal places. They used place value counters initially to support them but then moved on to spotting misconceptions, explaining their reasoning and solving problems.
