Welcome to Year 6's website page!
Welcome to Year 6's website page. Here, you will be able to find out what we are learning as well as see regular updates of us engaging in and enjoying our work. This half term our learning will be centred around World War 1. This will involve learning lots of new enquiry skills as well as gaining lots of knowledge and understanding to help us carefully consider the impact of this moment in our history. Some of this exciting learning will include: mapping the outbreak of WW1 (considering how this shaped Europe); a local study of a war hero and investigating the roles of animals.
Our class novel this half term is War Horse, by Michael Morpurgo. In addition to this, we will be reading war poems along with a range of non-fiction texts, beginning with a newspaper report documenting the outbreak of the war. We will be linking much of our learning together through these themes.
In science, the children will learn all about electricity whilst applying their enquiry skills in different ways. Furthermore in PSHE, we will build on our understanding of mindset by considering how we think and developing a growth mindset. There are also many other fantastic learning opportunities and visits planned throughout the term.
PE for Year 6 will be on a Monday so please ensure that a suitable PE kit is in school for these sessions. Homework is also issued on a Friday and should be returned by the following Tuesday; we offer a homework club on a Monday lunchtime to support children with this.
