Pupil Premium
Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their wealthier peers.
The Government believes that schools should decide how the Pupil Premium is allocated and spent, since it is felt that they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. From September 2012, schools are required to publish online information about how they have used the Premium. This will ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the Premium.
Our Pupil Premium strategy is based upon guidance and research by the EEF (Education Endowment Fund). More information can be found about this by visiting The EEF Guide to the Pupil Premium | EEF
Our current strategy document below outlines how we spend funding and the impact it has over time:
In 2024/25, our outcomes for disadvantaged pupils were celebrated as some of the best in the country, reflected in the letter below, received from Bridget Phillipson (Secretary for Education):
Free School Meal Support
The Pupil Premium was set up by the government in January 2011. It means that the school will receive additional funds for children who are eligible to receive free school meals. Therefore, if you think your child might be entitled to free school meals, it will help the school enormously if you register by completing the application form attached and returning it to the school office along with the required evidence as listed on the form. Please do this even if you do not intend your child to have free school meals.
You are entitled to Free School Meals if you are in receipt of Income Support, an Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, an Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance, Child Tax Credit (only if you do NOT receive Working Tax Credit), Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit, National Asylum Support Service.
More information and support to apply can be found at the local authority website:
