School Council

Our school council plays a vital part in the running of our school. The children meet regularly to discuss issues in school and to make suggestions for further action. The school council members meet with Miss Forsyth to review the things which happen in school and to see what improvements can be made to our school.

School Council Aims 2025/26:

To give every pupil a voice – We listen to everyone's ideas and make sure all children in our school feel heard.

To help make our school a welcoming and happy place – We want our school to look and feel great for children, staff, and visitors.

To be positive role models – We will always try to be kind, helpful, respectful, and set a good example for others.

To share our class’s views respectfully – We will speak up for our classmates and share their thoughts in a fair and respectful way.

To help improve our school – We will work together to make our school even better by spotting and solving problems.

To make our learning environments the best they can be – We want everyone to enjoy learning, feel safe, and have fun at school.

To support charities and plan school events – We will help others by raising money for good causes and organising fun events for everyone.

Previous work of the school council:

New Pupil Handbook

The school council have been working very hard to create a pupil handbook. The handbook will support new pupils joining Rickleton. It includes key information such as what to bring to school, staff in each year group, who keeps us safe and exciting things that happen daily at Rickleton. The school council are very excited to show new pupils around the school and share the handbook with them, to welcome them into the Rickleton family.

Harvest Assembly

During our Harvest Assembly, we thought about those who are not as lucky as ourselves. Our generous donations were collected by the Washington Food Project to support those in the local community. Our school council put together a presentation to teach our children about the work of the Food Project.

Healthy Lifestyle and Sport Interview

We invited Tess, from Together for Children, to come in to school to interview our school council. She is trying to find out about young peoples' attitudes to sport and had lots of questions for us. She was very complimentary about the manners of our school council pupils and also their knowledge and enthusiasm for all things linked to sport and healthy living.

The results of her survey can be found below:

Christmas Jumper Day Competition

To celebrate National Christmas Jumper Day, our school council organised a Family Competition to design the best Christmas Jumper. Details and winning designs can be found in the powerpoint below.

Healthy Eating Assembly

The School Council have been working hard to promote healthy food choices in our school.  They made a fruit salad together and then led a whole school assembly to inform the children about how easy it is to make good food choices
