School Lunches
Our school kitchen is run by Sunderland local authority. They provide meals on a 3 week rotating menu however there is some flexibility in this linked to reliability of deliveries etc. The current menus are shown below. Our kitchen also provide some flexibility in these menus and often adapt additional sandwiches/jacket potatoes tec to support children in choosing a meal they enjoy.
The menu offered by local authority kitchens is planned and monitored to maintain high standards of nutrition and variety. More information can be found in the document at the bottom of the page. Options must always be available for vegetarian or religious linked preferences.
For children who require medical adaptations to their diet (eg. allergies etc) a personalised meal can be provided if parents can provide medical evidence of the need.
Currently, all children in Reception, Y1 and Y2 receive government funding to provide a free lunch. The purpose behind this can be viewed here Free school lunch for every child in infant school - GOV.UK
At Rickleton we insist that children up to Y2 have a school lunch, with the focus being on building a relationship with new foods; the social aspect of choosing and eating food with friends and peers; and life skills such as using a knife and fork. We do work with parents on this and can offer some adaptations and support linked to medical needs.
For children in Nursery who opt to have a full day in school, there is a charge for lunch and, again, we insist on this being a school provided meal
From Y3, parents can opt that their child has either a school lunch or packed lunch. There is a requirement for 2 weeks’ notice from parents/carers should their child wish to change from school meal to packed lunch or vice versa. However, we will always try to help in times of unexpected emergency.
The cost of a meal for Nursery and KS2 children is £2.40 per day, which includes a two course meal and drink.
Dinner money can be paid via the SchoolMoney app. Payment may be made in advance for a half term or full term period if parents wish.
If you are receiving certain benefit benefits you may be entitled to free school meals. Please use the links above to find information online and to apply for Free School Meals.
