Uniform Guidance

At Rickleton, we want children to take pride in their appearance and put great importance on ensuring high standards or uniform. In 2023, we simplified uniform guidance to support parents and children enjoy a uniform policy which is easy to understand and cheap to access.

There are many arguments for and against having a school uniform which we fully understand but feel the positive impact, as discussed here The Benefits of School Uniforms - School Wear United | School Uniform & Sportswear are clear when working with children in school.

Whilst we understand the many arguments about free choice, we're aware that future job aspirations in many forms of life require employees to adhere to a uniform policy in roles such as the NHS, police force, retail and public service roles and so children adhering to uniform code is also part of their future life preparation.

We will always work with parents to offer support and organise events to allow good quality, used uniform to be passed on to other families. Please see the office if you are ever short of uniform and we are happy to supply some for you from the stocks we have.

If you are having a 'crisis' with uniform, please communicate this to the office or class teacher so staff are aware. It is not unusual that families need a couple of days to buy new shoes when a hole appears or having left a cardigan somewhere. We also appreciate that medical needs can also result in a need for slightly amended uniform for a while.

If children are persistently not following uniform, a reminder slip will be sent to parents to help return this to normal. Most frequent examples of this are over elaborate hair accessories, not uniform shoes and socks and over sized earring types.

Uniform policy/guidance can be seen in the images below but please speak to the school for advice before buying if needed. We'd rather offer support before buying item that needlessly waste money.

Those in receipt of certain benefits are also entitled to a £50 uniform voucher once each year per child and can request this from the office.

Buying Uniform

Our school uniform is provided by 'The School Outfit' company, who have a unit on Crowther Industrial Estate where stock can be viewed and tried on for size. Our office also keep a small stock of uniform for this purpose.

Uniform can also be ordered directly from the website and delivered directly to you.

Whilst we encourage children to wear a school jumper/cardigan showing the school badge, we are very happy for parents to purchase uniform from suppliers such as supermarkets, which can be considerably cheaper, as long as they adhere to the same colour ie dark red top, white polo collar t-shirt, grey trousers/skirt.

PE it should be a plain red top and black shorts. Football strips and other heavily branded items should not be worn.

Please note guidance on footwear type carefully.
