What's happening in school?

  • Christmas with the House of Destiny Church

    Sun 24 Dec 2023

As part of our RE link to Christian festivals, and to ensure an awareness of diverse Christianity in the local community, we have developed links with the 'House of Destiny' Church, just across the road from the school. For the first time in 2023, Andrew and Panache, came to join our school assembly to begin advent. As part of the service, they taught us the song 'Joy to the World' and left us time to practise.

We then took this song, and several of our own, across to the Church building for the final assembly of term to celebrate Christmas. A wonderful service saw us celebrate with lots of congregational music, choir singing and reading by some pupils. Such a wonderful link so close to school and one which we hope will grow yet further over the coming years.

Videos from the service and all the other lovely Christmas activities which have taken place in school can be viewed here https://rickleton-primary-school.primarysite.media/playlist/christmas-raffle-2023

  • Fit for Life

    Thu 14 Dec 2023

Fit for Life Club for Y4, 5 and 6 families.

We are lucky this year to be working with Sunderland Local Authority who are offering a range of activities linked to developing our pupils' understanding of staying fit and healthy.

As part of their work, they have offered a parent and child after school club, with some lovely activities linked to being fit and eating healthily. The club will run from 3.30 to 4.30pm, starting Wednesday 17th January for 4 weeks, free of charge.

  • Sports!

    Fri 08 Dec 2023

A busy day of competitive sport yesterday with 25 Y5/6 pupils competing in the Sunderland Final of Sports Hall athletics, coming out as comfortable winners, by nearly 30 pts. They will now progress to the Regional Finals in January.

After school, our Girls' football team braved torrential rain to play in the Durham County finals. Their determination saw them score incredibly late in the final group game to reach the final and again score incredibly late to take the final to penalties. Sadly, they lost in the penalty shoot-out, for the second year running!

Well done to all of our amazing, determined and wonderfully well behaved competitors.

  • Choir perform at Durham Cathedral

    Sun 03 Dec 2023

During the Autumn term, our fabulous choir were invited to take part in a special Michaelmas performance at Durham Cathedral. They worked hard to learn a full programme of songs and thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the Cathedral staff to get ready for the event. In front of a full Cathedral audience, the pupils performed wonderfully alongside the Cathedral choristers. Well done choir!
