  • Mental Health Ambassadors!

    Mon 05 Feb 2024

Congratulations to our new mini medics who received their mental health ambassador badges today.

This is the first time Rickleton has had mental health mini medics and we are delighted that our children will have even more support with their wellbeing.

  • Cross Country 23/24

    Mon 05 Feb 2024

Congratulations to the 25 children from Y5 and 6 who have given up their Saturday morning over the past 3 weeks to represent the school Cross Country team. Wherever they come in the race, we try to challenge runners to improve on their previous score as part of the personal challenge of sport. We were delighted that boy and girl teams scores improved week on week, suggesting that this message of determination and resilience was successful. Congratulations to our Girls' team who came runners-up over all and our boys team who were 4th. When added together, we were also runners-up in the overall competition. As the picture shows, for the first time ever, the final event was held here at Rickleton. Thank you to the 8 staff who turned up to help Mr Baker, who organises the who event, plus the lovely FORPS members who served refreshments. A lovely community occasion.

  • Tiny Tweeties

    Thu 01 Feb 2024

Nursery had a wonderful time with their Tiny Tasters visitor this half term. They learned all about healthy foods and how to use kitchen tools safely to then make their own space snack – Sweet Potato stars! They were delicious!

  • The Bug Man

    Wed 31 Jan 2024

The Bug man visited Y6 on Tuesday as part of their writing hook for their upcoming writing focus linked to their reading book 'The Explorer'. The children (and staff) were very brave and learned and handled some amazing animals.

  • Y6 visit the 'PREVENT' bus

    Fri 19 Jan 2024

Our Y6 children enjoyed a visit from the Sunderland 'PREVENT' bus this week. This ex-SAFC team bus has been set up by the local authority to allow children to find out about, and discuss, some of the things which may worry them or they may need to know about in order to keep safe. The children moved in a carousel around the bus, talking to various professionals about areas such as on-line safety, anti social behaviour, substance abuse and other topics.

The bus organisers were very complimentary about both the behaviour and manners of the children, but also the high level of knowledge which they brought to the conversations about how we can keep ourselves safe.

  • EFL Referee Andrew Kitchen

    Mon 15 Jan 2024

As part of our focus on future aspirations, local EFL referee Andrew Kitchen visited the school today to talk to Y5 and 6 pupils. He discussed his role as a Championship referee, how he started out in grass roots football and his journey to officiating at the highest level of the game. Our children asked lots of insightful questions, particularly thinking about respect and resilience which the role takes. They also got the opportunity to see and try some of the modern equipment which helps him do his job and spent some time designing some new equipment they thought might help him in his role. Thank you to Andrew for giving up his time.

  • Regional Sportshall Athletics Final

    Mon 15 Jan 2024

Extremely proud of our Y5/6 Sportshall Athletics team today. As Sunderland area winners, they participated in the Tyne and Wear Regional finals against 9 other schools from a very large area. It's hard to explain the strength and standard of this competition and, whilst we weren't in the top 3, every single athlete did themselves proud and competed to the best of their ability. A huge well done to all involved.

  • Letter from the King!

    Mon 15 Jan 2024

We are thrilled to have received a letter from the King thanking the children of Rickleton for the card which they sent to celebrate his Coronation!

  • Technology Safety Meeting

    Fri 12 Jan 2024

Thank you to those who supported the drop-in session for parents/carers to bring in new devices for our technician to ensure all safety locks and features are enabled.  It is great our community works together to ensure our children are safe online!

  • SAFC Flag Bearer

    Thu 11 Jan 2024

Before Christmas, we put one of our pupils forward for an award linked to his caring attitude and support he gives to his younger brother. We were delighted that he was chosen as a flag bearer at the Stadium of Light for the game on New Years Day. The attached photos show a very happy young man - well done Jayden.
