Welcome to Year 1's website page!

Welcome to Year 1’s website page.

Our teachers in Year 1 are Mrs O'Connor, Mr Booler and Mrs Croydon, supported by Mrs Hallimond and Mrs Tulip.

Please find below our term by term curriculum plan for the year. This will tell you what we are learning about in all of our subjects and many of the exciting things we are doing in our learning.

You can also read our current class text which prompt our reading and writing for the term. Please try to work with your child to read and know this text really well.

Fit and Healthy

A very sporty week for Y1, who enjoyed Sports day and also developing their cricket skills with the AllStar Cricket coach.

Science visit to the Centre for Life

Year One had a fantastic day at the Centre for Life learning about life as an astronaut and exploring the space exhibit.

Food technology

The children enjoyed learning about different food groups. They designed and made healthy fruit space inspired skewers. The children safely used knives to cut and spread.

Computing Algorithms

We have been using Beebots in our computing lessons to think about giving clear instructions - these are called algorithms.

Collaborative Learning Week

To begin Spring Term 2, the whole school took part in a collaborative learning week. The focus was to find out about the history of Harraton Colliery, which was formally on the site where our school now stands. The photos show some of the amazing learning which took place.

Art - Cubism

Children have been studying the artist 'cubism' style and creating their own cubism images.

History Study

The children loved travelling back in time to meet Florence Nightingale this morning. They examined artefacts from the time, bandaged injured soldiers and folded sheets in our own Scutari Hospital.

Year 1 Art Club - Andy Warhol

First, we learnt lots of different techniques and used plasticine to make different animals.  We pinched, rolled, moulded and added detail to our models using special tools. Once we had learnt the different techniques, we made a pig out of air-drying clay.
