Welcome to Year 6's website page!

Welcome to Year 6’s website page.

Our teachers in Year 6 are Mrs Couling (Fuchsia Class) and Mrs Dhinsa (Magenta Class), supported by Mrs Bogan and Ms. Quinlivan.

Please find below our term by term curriculum plan for the year. This will tell you what we are learning about in all of our subjects and many of the exciting things we are doing in our learning.

Y5 to 6 Transition Reading - 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty

In preparation for the start of year 6, we ask that pupils read the book below, on which a lot of their learning will be based. This can be read as a personal book or, if struggling with the content, as some nighttime parent/child storytime.

Reading Spine

Reading at Rickleton is always a priority and much of our learning is linked to class novels. The attached reading spine shows the class text for each term and a spine of linked and suggested reads, in many different styles and formats to suit all readers.. Parents may find this useful when choosing or buying books across the year.

PE Lessons and Kit

PE for Year 6 will take place on a MONDAY AFTERNOON and children will need PE kit.

- Non-branded solid red t-shirt or solid red long sleeved top (plain or with school logo)

- Plain black (non-branded) PE shorts or jogging bottoms. Sport leggings may be worn but must be plain black

- Sport trainers or plimsoles may be worn for PE

If PE kit is not brought, school will provide suitable equipment to ensure your child does not miss a lesson.

If a child is ill or injured, they will only be able to miss the lessons if a letter has been provided by their parent/guardian. A new letter must be provided for each lesson unless agreed with the teacher.

Additional blocks of PE will take place across the year and staff will inform parents in advance when these are due to happen.

HOME LEARNING:

If you child is absent from school for any reason, or just wants to do some additional learning, the links below should be well suited to their age and in school topics. Feel free to bring any homework in to school to share with your teacher:

READING:

The KS2 past reading comprehension tests are ideal reading and answering practice. These can be printed or read online and answered on paper.

WRITING

The past SATs Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar tests are a good way to practice the organisational aspect of writing.

Grammar and Punctuation tests, plus transcripts of the standard of spelling test words can be found below.

Writing prompts are a good way to support children to create a piece of writing with a plan and purpose behind it.

MATHS

Practise number arithmetic skills and wider ranging reasoning skills using the tests below:
