Welcome to Reception’s website page. .

Our teachers in Reception are Mrs Meredith, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Comrie, supported by Mrs Burn and Ms. Johnson.

Below, you will find some useful resources to support parents and children, plus some examples of the fun and learning which takes place in school.

Ball Skills

This month we have had our Ball Skills Event. We had a fantastic time on the big yard. We took part in 8 different stations to help us develop our ball skills, as well as our running technique and stamina. The different stations were: throwing shuttlecocks into a target, a penalty shoot out, football dribbling, weaving through cones with a hockey stick and ball, a throwing and catching station, a basketball into a hoop, underarm throwing of a beanbag into a hoop and finally a baton race. We worked really hard in teams and cheered each other on. Finally, to cool down, we enjoyed an ice pop!

Jubilee Website Post

This week, Reception have been learning all about the ‘Queen’s Platinum Jubilee’. They have taken part in lots of activities related to the Royal Family including, building Buckingham Palace using junk materials; learning the National Anthem in the Music area; designing a new crown for the Queen in the playdough and creative area; counting out the correct number of jewels onto the crown in the Maths area; sorting jewels into the correct coloured jewellery box in the water; using paints and pastels to paint a portrait of the Queen, as well as lots of other activities.

Tiny Tweeties – Dinosaur Songs

Over this half term we have been learning about dinosaurs. As part of our topic we have sung songs from the Tiny Tweeties portal. Tiny Tweeties came to visit us in school and we were so excited! We sang hello songs, lots of dinosaur songs, played instruments, joined in with action songs with scarves and streamers and pretended to be lots of different dinosaurs. We loved counting in 2s songs and rocked out to “2,4,6,8,10 dinosaurs!” We also loved being palaeontologists, hunting for dinosaur bones.

Reception have been learning about ‘Dinosaurs’. The children are thoroughly enjoying the topic. They have enjoyed learning about the different names of dinosaurs and identifying which are carnivores and which are herbivores. The children were very excited during our hook lesson. After lunchtime, we were greeted by a small nest with dinosaur eggs that were surrounded by larger dinosaur footprints. We have been taking part in lots of dinosaur themed activities during our continuous provision time.

Last half term, the children enjoyed learning about Spring and growth. They explored the seasonal change, learned about life cycles of animals, as well as learning about life on a farm. They enjoyed reading the topic book ‘Farmer Duck’ and retelling the story using actions. The children took part in lots of activities during continuous provision including, making spring flowers in the play dough, sequencing life cycles as well as watching a real life cycle of the caterpillar to a butterfly.

Reception -All About Me

The children have settled very well into life in Reception. We have had lots of discussions about rules, routines and structure. The children have explored the new areas and learned how to tidy up each area correctly – we are still working on this. We have found out lots of information and facts about each other as well as playing games to develop our social and emotional skills.

Macmillan Charity Support

At the end of September, we joined in with the National charity event – The Macmillan coffee morning. We learned about the charity and how it helps others. We then decorated banners, coloured in cupcakes, designed our own Gingerbread Man and also made our very own crispy cakes to take home and enjoy with our families.
